Ministry of Commerce and Industry Warns against Using the National Emblem or the Royal Emblem without a License
Khamis Abdullah Al Farsi, Director General of Commerce at Ministry of Commerce and Industry, said the ministry noticed the continuous use of the national emblem of Oman (khanjar and two swords) and the royal emblem (crown, khanjar and two swords) by some commercial establishments and companies on different commercial products without obtaining a license from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
The illegal use of the national or the Royal emblems without a license from the Ministry is violating to the Royal Decree No. 53/2004, article (12) on the Law of National Flag, Emblem and Anthem, which states (It is prohibited to use the emblem as a trademark or for commercial advertisement. Likewise, the emblem shall not be put on locally made or imported Jewellery, products or other goods without prior approval from the Minister of Commerce and Industry).
The Director General of Commerce added the Royal Decree identified a number of penalties for violators. Article (15) stipulates fines for violating establishments. In case of using the emblem without a license, the ministry shall confiscate the products, without prejudice to any severe penalty stipulated in any other law.
Khamis Al Farsi said the ministry has published a number of advertisements in local gazettes and social media means requesting not to use the emblem without a prior license, otherwise, it will take all necessary legal actions against the violators.
